Recently, during the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, a Ukrainian F16 aircraft crashed. After this incident, an enraged Zelensky sacked the Chief of the Ukrainian Air Force, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleschuk.
Taking action on the Air Force Chief, Zelensky said, ‘I have decided to replace the Air Force Commander of Ukraine. Many thanks to all the military pilots, engineers, mobile fire group warriors and air defense personnel. Thanks to those too, who are actually fighting for Ukraine.’
How did the aircraft crash?
Let us tell you that the F16 crashed during the shelling with Russia. However, it is not yet clear under what circumstances the aircraft fell down. According to the American media NYT, initial investigations indicate that the aircraft crashed during firing with the help of Patriot missile battery. However, the pilot’s mistake is also not being ruled out in this case.
It was not the pilot’s fault: Ukraine
There is a difference in the theory of Ukraine and Western countries regarding the cause of the crash. On one hand, Western countries believe that the aircraft was not the target of the Russian military. Whereas Ukraine says that the pilot is not at fault and Russia itself has targeted the F-16.
Pilot’s funeral held
Ukraine has not yet clearly revealed the identity of its deceased pilot. However, some reports from the Air Force said that the pilot’s name was Oleksiy Mes, who was also known as ‘Moonfish’. After the pilot’s death, his funeral has also been performed.
Action was also taken against the military chief
Let us tell you that this is the second time when a chief of the Ukrainian army has been removed from his post. Earlier in February also, Zelensky had sacked the Chief of the Ukrainian Army, General Valery Zaluzhny. General Oleksandr Sirsky was appointed in his place.
