The 20th edition of the India-US joint military training ‘Yudh Abhyas-2024’ started today i.e. on 9 September 2024 at Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan. This exercise will continue till 22 September 2024. This military exercise is conducted alternately between India and America every year since 2004.
This edition has seen a significant increase in the scope of the joint exercise of military strength and equipment. The Indian Army contingent of 600 personnel is represented by a battalion of the Rajput Regiment along with personnel from other branches and departments.

The US contingent of the same number of soldiers is represented by soldiers of the 1-24 Battalion of the 11th Airborne Division of the US Army based in Alaska. The aim of this joint exercise is to enhance the joint military capability to conduct counter-terrorism operations in sub-conventional scenarios under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.
This exercise is conducted in a semi-desert environment. The tactical exercises conducted during this combat training include joint response to terrorist action, joint planning and joint field training exercises which will help in real world counter-terrorism missions.

‘Yudh Abhyas’ will provide an opportunity to both sides to share best practices in tactics, techniques and procedures for conducting joint operations. This will help in developing interoperability and camaraderie between the two armies. The joint exercise will also enhance defence cooperation, which will further enhance bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.
