Disqualifying Vinesh is unfortunate: Rahul Gandhi

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has called Vinesh’s exclusion from the Olympics unfortunate. He said, “It is unfortunate that Vinesh Phogat, India’s pride, who reached the finals after defeating world champion wrestlers, was disqualified on technical grounds. We are hopeful that the Indian Olympic Association will strongly challenge this decision and get justice for the country’s daughter. Vinesh is not one of those who lose courage, we are confident that she will return to the arena with more strength.”

Earlier, Samajwadi Party chief and former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had said that there should be a thorough investigation into the technical reasons behind Vinesh Phogat’s inability to play in the final. Along with this, he has also demanded to bring out the reason behind this.

At the same time, Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh has demanded that the Indian government should intervene immediately. He said that this is not an insult to Vinesh but to the country. Vinesh Phogat was going to create history in the whole world, declaring her 100 grams overweight and disqualifying her is a grave injustice. The whole country stands with Vinesh, the Indian government should intervene immediately, if the matter is not accepted then boycott the Olympics.

Earlier, on Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification, Prime Minister Modi said, “Vinesh, you are a champion among champions! You are the pride of India and an inspiration to every Indian. Today’s setback hurts. I wish words could express the sense of disappointment I am experiencing. It has always been your nature to face challenges boldly. Come back stronger! We are all with you.”
