KCNA reported that on Sunday, Kim emphasized the importance of strengthening naval power as he visited a naval base construction site.
“Now that we soon have large surface warships and submarines that cannot be anchored by existing facilities for mooring warships, building a navy to operate advanced large warships has become a pressing task,” Kim was quoted as saying.
During the trip, Kim emphasized the need to build a naval port capable of handling the weapons systems of warships and announced military measures to deploy anti-aircraft and coastal defense systems to protect the port, according to the report.
Kim cited the geopolitical advantages of the location for the country, which is surrounded by sea on both the east and west sides. The location of the site was not specified in the report.
