‘Will the Chief Minister now guard all the schools in Maharashtra…’, Eknath Shinde’s MLA Sanjay Gaikwad said on the Badlapur incident

People are angry over the case of sexual abuse of two school girls in Badlapur, Maharashtra. The accused has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days. Amidst the political uproar over this matter, an objectionable statement of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s MLA has come to light.

Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena party MLA Sanjay Gaikwad said that I have seen protests. People who are young have a tendency to commit such crimes. Now these people are saying that the government has done it. Now will the Chief Minister guard all the schools in Maharashtra? Or will the SP go and sit at their house or will the accused call and say that I am committing rape, come and catch me?

He said that incidents keep happening, there is a system for that. If the police will not work then the CBI or SIT will. Instead of doing politics on such incidents, everyone should try to punish the culprit. Such efforts are not being seen in Maharashtra, whenever any incident happens, politics starts.

Earlier on Monday, the accused was produced in the court. The court heard the arguments of the prosecution and demanded further custody. The court sent the accused Akshay Shinde to judicial custody for fourteen days. Advocate Priyesh Jadhav, who appeared on behalf of the victim’s family, filed an intervention petition and demanded to add section 6 of the POCSO Act against the accused, which has now been added by the police.

Under Section 6 of the POCSO Act, the accused are given punishment ranging from 20 years to life imprisonment and now the SIT has added it against the accused. Jadhav said that the school principal, administration secretary and administration president have been made accused and shown as wanted in the case.

15 days of CCTV footage missing from school

15 days of CCTV footage has disappeared from the school concerned. The school management says that now, it has become necessary to investigate what was the motive behind this, why the CCTV was disappeared. We are investigating the situation and handing it over to the police for further investigation. In the case of rape, the girl will be given 10 lakhs and the person who has been sexually assaulted will be given 3 lakhs.

The management further said, ‘We will bear the educational expenses of both the victims and will ensure that the necessary financial assistance is given in the form of a monthly cheque so that the identity of the girls is not revealed. We will help both the girls.
