Will Manish Sisodia, released on bail, be able to fill the void left by Arvind Kejriwal?

Manish Sisodia’s release from jail is not only a relief for him personally, it is an even bigger relief for Arvind Kejriwal – and at the moment, the biggest relief is for the Aam Aadmi Party. If there is one place where there is no difference, it is the Delhi government.

Before going to jail, Manish Sisodia was almost the boss of the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi. Technically he was the deputy CM, but despite being the chief minister, he had to look after almost everything because Arvind Kejriwal did not have any department.

After being arrested, Manish Sisodia resigned, but Arvind Kejriwal is still the Chief Minister of Delhi. After Manish Sisodia went to jail, Arvind Kejriwal gave almost all his responsibilities to Atishi, and still did not take any department for himself.

Manish Sisodia is coming back, but now everything has changed. Now he is just an MLA of his area. A letter from Manish Sisodia came out just a few days after Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest.

Manish Sisodia had written a four-page letter addressed to the people of his area. The date mentioned on the letter revealed that Manish Sisodia had written it on March 15. Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the CBI on March 21, meaning the letter was written a week earlier in which the most important thing was – ‘We will meet outside soon.’

It was written in the letter, ‘In the last one year, I missed everyone a lot… Everyone worked together with great honesty… Just like everyone fought during the time of independence, we are fighting for good education and schools… The dream of independence came true even after the dictatorship of the British… Similarly, one day every child will get proper and good education… The British were also very proud of their power… The British also kept people in jail by making false allegations… The British kept Gandhi ji in jail for many years… The British also put Nelson Mandela in jail… These people are my inspiration and all of you are my strength… To be a developed country, it is very important to have good education and schools.’

And in the end Sisodia had written, ‘Will meet you outside soon… Long live the education revolution… Love you all.’

On Manish Sisodia’s bail being granted, Sunita Kejriwal wrote on social site X, ‘God’s house is late but not unfair.’ Surely, Sunita Kejriwal will have the same thoughts for her husband Arvind Kejriwal.

Manish Sisodia’s coming out in the absence of Arvind Kejriwal is important, but there are some questions too – and the biggest question is whether Manish Sisodia will be able to fill the void left by Arvind Kejriwal to some extent?

1. He cannot be as effective as Kejriwal: Of course, Manish Sisodia has been number 2 in the Aam Aadmi Party and the party’s government in Delhi, but it is difficult for his words to have as much impact on people as Arvind Kejriwal.

If he were the Deputy CM, he would have been as effective in government work as before, but Manish Sisodia may face some difficulty on the issue of organizational work or coordination with the opposition alliance.

People know and recognize the Aam Aadmi Party by the name of Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia has always been known as his strong ally, and people do not consider an ally as a leader.

These things become more important at this time because elections are going to be held in Delhi after 6 months – and returning to power is the biggest challenge for the Aam Aadmi Party at the moment. This task has become more difficult with Arvind Kejriwal in jail.

It can also be said that Arvind Kejriwal was out during the Lok Sabha elections, but the Aam Aadmi Party could not get even a single seat. If someone thinks like this then he should not forget that the results of the previous elections have also been similar. Lok Sabha and Assembly elections are not affected by each other.

2. It is difficult to become deputy CM again: The constitutional arrangement is that the Chief Minister himself recommends to the Governor for reshuffle or extension of the cabinet, in Delhi to the Deputy Governor. In such a situation, while Arvind Kejriwal is in jail, it does not seem possible in the current circumstances.

Even when Arvind Kejriwal came out on interim bail, he was not allowed to go to the office. He was allowed to sign government files only where it was absolutely necessary for him as the Chief Minister – then how can it be expected that Arvind Kejriwal will be able to recommend Manish Sisodia to be included in the cabinet from jail.

This is not a case where a survey can be conducted to take the opinion of the people of Delhi about running the government from jail – this is possible only if the Lieutenant Governor or the court gives permission for it.

3. The battle for supremacy will also have to be fought: Sanjay Singh went to jail after Manish Sisodia and came back before him. Since then, he has been representing the party in various matters. Sanjay Singh has also been representing Aam Aadmi Party in the meetings of INDIA Block.

In between, there was an attempt to run a campaign on social media, in which there was a demand to make Sanjay Singh the Chief Minister in place of Arvind Kejriwal. Initially, even in the Swati Maliwal case, Sanjay Singh had taken a different political line from Arvind Kejriwal. However, later he was also seen with Arvind Kejriwal and Bibhav Kumar.

From Sanjay Singh’s attitude then, it was felt that he was trying to show his importance and strength. If the battle for supremacy is still going on in the party, then Manish Sisodia may have to deal with such things too. Now Sanjay Singh’s status has increased so much that in the absence of Arvind Kejriwal, he has started feeling like two swords in one sheath with Manish Sisodia.

4. Can there be any role in the Swati Maliwal case? If we see, Swati Maliwal case has become a thorn in Arvind Kejriwal’s throat. And this is not the kind of case where he has been getting rid of politicians by apologizing after accusing them of corruption.

Swati Maliwal’s reaction on Manish Sisodia getting bail is worth noticing. Swati Maliwal has written on X, ‘Very happy with Manish ji’s bail… hope now he will take the lead and take the government in the right direction.’

At a time when open hostility is being seen between Swati Maliwal and Arvind Kejriwal, this post of Swati Maliwal says a lot. At first glance, this post of Swati Maliwal can also be understood as an offer of ceasefire.

After the alleged assault incident at the residence of Delhi Chief Minister, initially some people including Sanjay Singh tried to mediate, but due to the stubbornness of both the parties, the talks broke down and the matter reached from the police station to the court.

Being in jail at the time of the incident, Manish Sisodia can play an important role in solving this case – and it seems that at least this is a case in which Manish Sisodia can prove to be effective even in the absence of Arvind Kejriwal.
