A local court in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh has sentenced the husband and his in-laws for murdering his wife for dowry in 2018. The court has sentenced the husband to 10 years in jail and his mother and father to seven years in jail. Let us tell you that in 2018, the accused husband had set his wife on fire by sprinkling kerosene on her over dowry.
Actually, Krishna Singh’s daughter Shashikala, a resident of Buxar district of Bihar, was married to Dharmendra Verma, a resident of Kopwa Bahadurpur village, in February 2012. On the night of 13-14 September 2018, Shashikala was doused with kerosene and set on fire over dowry demands. After this, her family was informed about the incident after five days.

A complaint was lodged at the Phephana police station
As soon as the information was received, Krishna Singh lodged a complaint at the Phephana police station and an FIR was registered under sections 304B (dowry death), 498 (husband or relative of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act. After completing the investigation, the police filed a chargesheet against the three accused in the court, after which the court convicted all three and sentenced them.

Ballia Superintendent of Police Vikrant Veer said that the court of Additional District Judge Ravi Kiran Singh found husband Dharmendra Verma, father Bechan Prasad Verma and mother Manju Devi guilty of plotting and executing the murder. After this, the court sentenced the husband to 10 years in jail, his mother and father to seven years in jail. The police officer further said, apart from the jail sentence, the court has also imposed a fine of Rs 3 thousand on each convict.
