Why was Rahul Gandhi sitting in the back row despite being the Leader of the Opposition? Defense Ministry explained the reason

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi attended the Independence Day program organized at Red Fort on Thursday. During this, the picture of Rahul Gandhi sitting in the gallery wearing white kurta pajama is in discussion. This discussion is going on about him being seated in the back row as the leader of the opposition. But now the Defense Ministry has given clarification on this whole matter.

Giving clarification, the Defense Ministry has said that during the Independence Day program, arrangements were made for the Olympic medal winning players to sit in the front rows, due to which Rahul Gandhi was made to sit in the back row. Otherwise, according to the protocol, the leader of the opposition is made to sit in the front row.

During this time, players who participated in the Olympics were sitting next to Rahul Gandhi. Lalit Upadhyay, a member of the Indian hockey team that won the bronze medal in the Olympics, was sitting right in front of Rahul. Apart from this, Chief Justice Justice DY Chandrachud, Union Ministers Amit Shah, S. Jaishankar, Nirmala Sitharaman and Shivraj Singh Chauhan were sitting in the front row.

During the tenure of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Sonia Gandhi, as the leader of the opposition at that time, was always seated in the front row at such events.

Let us tell you that the responsibility of organizing national programs and making seating arrangements in such events rests with the Defense Ministry.

Leader of Opposition joined after 10 years

The post of Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha remained vacant from 2014 to 2024. This was because during that period no opposition party had enough MPs to hold the post. However, Rahul Gandhi was appointed Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha on June 25, 2024 after the Congress party’s tally reached 99 seats in the recently held Lok Sabha elections.

PM addressed the nation for the 11th time

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the countrymen from the ramparts of the Red Fort for the 11th consecutive time on the occasion of Independence Day. During this, the Prime Minister expressed his commitment to continue the fight against corruption with honesty and expressed concern over the alleged trend of glorifying the corrupt.

Addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the 78th Independence Day, he said that every citizen of our country has been troubled by the termites of corruption, so we have launched a comprehensive war against corruption. The Prime Minister said that he also has to pay the price for it but his reputation cannot be bigger than the nation.
