Why is he leaving JMM and joining BJP? Champai Soren himself told the reason

Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader Champai Soren has announced that he is going to join the BJP. He said that his move is to save the identity of the tribals in the Santhal Pargana region, because other political parties look at this issue only from the point of view of vote bank.

In a social media post, Champai Soren said that the people of the Kolhan region always stood by him and rejected his choice of retiring from politics. His post came just hours after he announced his decision to join the BJP on August 30 along with his son.

Champai Soren’s tone before joining BJP

In the post, Champai Soren wrote, “Last week (August 18) I shared my thoughts with the whole country through a letter. After this, I kept meeting many people of Jharkhand and tried to know their opinion. The people of Kolhan region stood with me at every step and rejected the option of retirement.”

Champai Soren claims that there was no platform in the party where he could express his pain and the senior leader (Shibu Soren) is away from politics due to health reasons. Talking about the concerns of the tribals, he said, “Today, Bangladeshi infiltration has become a big problem in Santhal Pargana. On the sacred land of Baba Tilka Manjhi and Sido-Kanhu, these infiltrators are occupying the lands of the descendants of those heroes who never accepted slavery of the British. Because of them, the dignity of our mothers, sisters and daughters is in danger.”

He said, “Only BJP seems serious on this issue and other parties are ignoring it for votes. Therefore, in this fight to save the identity and existence of the tribals, I decided to join BJP expressing faith in the leadership of PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.”

Hemant Soren accused of ‘campaign to break the government’

Jharkhand Chief Minister and JMM Working President Hemant Soren attacked the BJP, alleging that the party was again adopting the old policy of breaking the MLAs of the ruling parties. He said, “The opposition has again started the ‘Sarkar Todo Abhiyan’ and ‘MLA Todo Abhiyan’, as they did during the Lok Sabha elections.” He also alleged that the BJP and its leaders were indulging in “divisive politics” in the name of religion and community.

Discussion about joining BJP just 15 days ago

It was believed that the party’s state president Babulal Marandi was angry with Champai Soren’s joining the BJP. He met Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday. After meeting the PM, he told the media that there was a discussion about Champai Soren joining the BJP 15 days ago. After joining the party, the local leaders will calm down. He said that he himself will be present at Champai Soren’s membership.

Champai Soren joining BJP may be a right decision for the party. However, it is important to consider whether this decision will be beneficial for the party, for example, Sita Soren and Geeta Koda joining BJP did not have much impact in favor of the party. On this, Marandi commented that it largely depends on various circumstances and no one can be forced to contest elections.
