Why has Mayawati started giving clarifications on every issue before the UP by-elections?

Mayawati had recently said that there was no question of her retiring from active politics. The BSP leader said that fake news was being spread against her – and alleged that this was being done by the ‘casteist media’.

And after Mayawati was re-elected as BSP president in the national executive meeting, all such speculations and rumours should be considered over. The BJP president is elected for five years, meaning this debate is not going to happen for the next five years. In any case, since Mayawati became president on 18 September 2003, no such debate has ever taken place in the last 21 years. Of course, many leaders have left BSP, but Mayawati has never faced a situation like Lok Janshakti Party, Shiv Sena and NCP – nor has there ever been a fight like the one in Samajwadi Party.

It is not as if Mayawati has been able to keep BSP away from the shadow of family politics. Earlier she had brought her brother into the party, and now she has made her nephew Akash Anand her political successor.

Along with Mayawati being re-elected as the president, BSP’s national coordinator Akash Anand has also been given many responsibilities. Akash Anand has been made in-charge of the states where elections are to be held.

He is already looking after the work of by-elections for 10 seats in Uttar Pradesh. For this very reason, Mayawati had hastily reinstated him and handed over his old responsibilities and powers.

By talking about her retirement, Mayawati had actually tried to clear the picture from her side that the command of BSP is in her hands only. If it was just this, then it would be fine, later also Mayawati has tried to clear the picture on many issues – why has Mayawati started giving clarification in every matter before the by-elections in UP?

Are you worried about BSP’s dwindling vote bank?

Most of Mayawati’s recent statements have been released on social site X, and that too from her own handle. Mayawati has said that like Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and Honorable Kanshiram, she will also remain dedicated to the self-respect and self-esteem campaign of BSP till her last breath.

And explaining the meaning of her words, Mayawati says, ‘There is no question of my retirement from active politics… ever since the party has put forward Akash Anand as the successor of BSP in my absence or in my ill health, the casteist media has been propagating such fake news… people should be careful.’

Mayawati has also tried to clarify that she is not ready to become the President. She wrote, earlier also rumours were spread that I would be made the President, whereas respected Kanshi Ram ji had rejected such an offer saying that becoming the President means retiring from active politics, which was not acceptable in the interest of the party, then how is it possible for his disciple to accept this?

After all, why is Mayawati saying these things at a time when by-elections are going to be held on 10 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh?

BSP’s decision to contest by-elections after a long time is bringing out Mayawati’s concern, and all her recent statements are also pointing in one direction – is Mayawati worried about BSP’s dwindling vote bank?

Is there really a need to avoid electoral alliances?

Apart from forming the government in UP on her own in 2007, Mayawati has not been successful without an alliance. Even in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BSP was able to win 10 Lok Sabha seats only because it had an electoral alliance with the Samajwadi Party. Otherwise, the results of 2014 and 2024 are exemplary.

Before the by-elections in UP, Mayawati has once again shared her vision regarding the alliance. Mayawati has clearly denied any kind of alliance with the Samajwadi Party and the Congress.

Mayawati has called the Samajwadi Party and the Congress anti-reservation parties, and has asked whether it would be in the interest of the SC, ST and OBC sections to form an alliance with them? Mayawati says that she will not form an alliance with either of them, and the SC, ST and OBC sections will have to stand on their own.

However, Mayawati has not named the Bharatiya Janata Party in the matter of not forming an alliance. Is Mayawati trying to give a clue to her people? In the past several elections, Mayawati has been accused of being a supporter of the BJP.

Meanwhile, Mayawati has expressed her gratitude to Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav for accepting the truth of the BSP leader being honest. Also, she has demanded action from the BJP against the Mathura MLA who made allegations against Mayawati.

Has Congress also started scaring Mayawati?

Congress is always Mayawati’s first target. Whatever Rahul Gandhi does, whatever step Priyanka Gandhi Vadra takes – Mayawati attacks. There is an attempt to completely surround them. Priyanka Gandhi has even accused Mayawati of being an undeclared spokesperson of the BJP, and the way Mayawati reacts, many times such allegations do not seem baseless.

Mayawati’s latest anger is on Rahul Gandhi’s statement on Miss India, in which he is raising the question that why SC-ST contestants are never seen in beauty contests. Actually, Rahul Gandhi has now started directly interfering in caste politics. First of all, BJP is the target, but Rahul Gandhi’s campaign on the pretext of caste census is actually aimed at leaders like Mayawati, who remain in power politics only on the basis of their community. The danger that Mayawati must be feeling right now, in the coming days, that thing will apply to all such leaders from Akhilesh Yadav to Tejashwi Yadav and Chirag Paswan.

Mayawati is saying that the followers of Baba Saheb Ambedkar will never forgive the Congress, which organised the Samvidhan Samman Samaroh in Prayagraj, for not honouring the chief architect of the Constitution with the title of Bharat Ratna during his lifetime or even after his death. And similarly, on the demise of Kanshi Ram, who gave impetus to Baba Saheb’s movement, despite being in power at the Centre, the SP government did not declare even a day of national mourning in his honour and neither did it declare state mourning… Be cautious of such thinking, conduct and character.

In the conversation, Mayawati also reminded of the 1995 guest house incident. She is accusing SP of carrying out the deadly attack, and is also asking why Congress never spoke up. Mayawati is also trying to remind that when a deadly attack was made on her in the guest house in Lucknow, there was a Congress government at the center, but it did not fulfill its responsibility.

The question is how can Mayawati forget that in 2019, as part of the electoral alliance, she had gone to Mainpuri and sought votes for Mulayam Singh Yadav – will BSP supporters forget all this just like that?

The way the Dalit section is being understood to vote for the SP-Congress alliance instead of BSP or BJP in the 2024 general elections, it seems that the Dalit voter can neither be warned nor mislead by mere rhetoric.
