‘Why does Congress always remember Shakuni, Chausar and Chakravyuh?’ Shivraj Singh Chauhan cornered Congress in Rajya Sabha

Central Agriculture Minister and former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chauhan, while attacking Congress in Rajya Sabha, said that Congress always remembers Shakuni, Chausar and Chakravyuh. When we go to the Mahabharata period, then we remember Kanhaiya. Who did injustice and wrongdoing, who did cheating. Anti-farmer is in the DNA of Congress.

Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Chauhan Shivraj attacked the Congress strongly while responding to the discussion on the functioning of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in the Rajya Sabha. He said that why does the Congress always remember Shakuni, Chausar and Chakravyuh? “Jaaki rahi bhaavna jaisi, prabhu murt dekhi tin taisi.” Shakuni was a symbol of deception and fraud, in Chausar one has to cheat and in Chakravyuh one has to kill by surrounding. Is this the real face of the Congress? “Jaaki rahi bhaavna jaisi, prabhu murt dekhi tin taisi” When we go to the Mahabharata period, we see Lord Krishna, while the opposition remembers Shakuni and Chausar, symbols of deceit and unrighteousness. There was a talk of loan waiver. I mentioned Shakuni, Chausar and cheating. The Congress has said many times in its central and state manifesto that it will waive loans as soon as it comes to power. In Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, if loans up to Rs 2 lakh are not waived in 10 days, then the Chief Minister will be removed on the 11th day.

‘Forced to eat rotten wheat’

He said that from the very beginning Congress’s priorities have been wrong. Our first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, I respect him. He came back after seeing a model from Russia and said implement it. Chaudhary Charan Singh said that this is wrong. He was the Prime Minister for 17 years, but what happened. India was forced to eat rotten red wheat from America.

Shivraj Singh further said that in Indira’s time, levy was forcibly collected. India did not become self-reliant. Rajiv Gandhi did talk about agriculture price policy, but did not take any steps to increase the income of farmers. Even in Narasimha Rao’s government, agriculture-related industries were not de-licensed. What can I say about 2004 to 2014, at that time the country was known for scams. In Indian politics, a bright sun rose on the political horizon, which filled the whole country with the world – Narendra Modi. The Modi government changed the priorities of agriculture.

We have six priorities

He said that we have six priorities- increasing production, reducing the cost of production, paying fair prices, diversification of agriculture and promoting natural farming so that the earth remains safe for the coming generations. This government is working by making a roadmap for farming.

Yesterday our friends were talking about the budget. In 2013-14, the agriculture budget was Rs 27664 crore. Today it has increased to Rs 1 lakh 32 thousand crore. If fertilizer, cooperatives, dairy, fisheries are all added to it, then another Rs 1 lakh 46 thousand 55 crore will be added to it. Jal Shakti Ministry is separate which is engaged in irrigation management. If production has to be increased, then the first priority is to provide water to dry fields. Without water, farming will not be possible. Congress governments never paid such serious attention. Atal Bihari Vajpayee talked about river linking. Narendra Modi first made it a reality in Gujarat and we worked to revive many rivers in Madhya Pradesh.

Work is going on on PM irrigation scheme: Agriculture Minister

When the issue of river linking came up, former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh was asked if Narmada ji could be linked to Kshipra ji, he said no, it is not possible. We decided that we will do it and we did it. Today, approval has been given to link Ken-Betwa. Many dams like Bansagar were not completed for years because agriculture and farmers were not a priority. Work is also going on on the Prime Minister Irrigation Scheme and micro irrigation schemes.

Shivraj said that many steps have been taken to ensure that farmers get cheap fertilizers and get better prices. I assure you that the Modi government will keep providing cheap fertilizers. Many members had expressed concern over water. A micro irrigation scheme was introduced through drip and sprinkle, through which the water flowing in the canal also evaporates. The previous government did not know the importance of water. The government has spent Rs 21,615 crores from 23-24 to 14-15 in this scheme. He counted the figures for the purchase of lentils, gram and pigeon pea and said that we have to become self-sufficient in pulses and end dependence on imports.

‘Crops will be purchased at MSP’

He also told that the government has decided that whatever the farmers produce will be bought completely at MSP. Surjewala ji was saying that so much was produced and so much was bought. What is MSP for? If the farmer gets a price below MSP, he will sell it at MSP. If he gets a good price, he will come to sell it at MSP. In Madhya Pradesh, the price of Sharbati wheat is four thousand, five thousand per quintal. Will they also sell it at MSP? Basmati rice of Haryana is also making a splash abroad. There is a tradition in the village that many times farmers do not pay the labourers, they just give them the grain. I don’t know whether they are interested in farming or not and read out the figures. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said that the farmer will have to sell at MSP under compulsion. When the market does not support, then he has to sell at MSP. That is why I had to say that there is a need to understand the farmer’s A. MSP should continuously go up. You will work on this. Shivraj said that the farmer is not a vote bank for us, he is God. We will behave with this belief. Whether it is paddy cultivation or wheat cultivation, whenever there was a need, the government has done it. He also counted the year-wise figures of paddy purchase and said that I can keep every single figure. You did not even buy. How much pulses were bought, it is the government that bought. When the farmer needed it, we did not step back. Neither have we stepped back, nor will we step back in the welfare of farmers. Modi government is committed to ensure that farmers get fair prices.
