Why did Shri Krishna break the pride of his wife Satyabhama, know the story behind it

Birthday 2024: The birth anniversary of Shri Krishna is celebrated with great pomp all over India. Lord Krishna was born on this auspicious day. The holy festival of Janmashtami is celebrated on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month. Many stories related to Shri Krishna are popular. According to mythology, Lord Krishna had 16108 wives. Out of which the name of Shri Krishna’s second wife was Satyabhama. Satyabhama was very arrogant but Shri Krishna once shattered the pride of his wife. Let’s know the whole story-

Lord Krishna had broken the pride of Satyabhama

Satyabhama, the second wife of Shri Krishna, believed that she was the most beautiful and rich because her father was very wealthy. Satyabhama had all kinds of ornaments and gems. Therefore, Satyabhama had pride which was her biggest problem.

Once on Shri Krishna’s birthday, Satyabhama thought that she would show everyone how much she loved Shri Krishna. So she decided that she would distribute gold equal to Shri Krishna’s weight among the people of the city, which is known as Tulabhaar Pratha. Actually, this practice was prevalent in temples at that time. People used to put butter, ghee or rice or some other thing equal to their weight in a big scale and distribute it among the people.

Satyabhama arranged for a weighing scale. People were very impressed but Shri Krishna was not affected by these things and he went and sat on one side of the scale. Satyabhama knew approximately how much he weighed and she had kept that much gold ready. But when she put the gold on the other side, Shri Krishna’s scale did not move even a bit.

Something similar happened when Shri Krishna was a child. A demon came and started taking him away. Then Shri Krishna increased his weight so much that the demon fell down and God sat on him and crushed him.

Satyabhama felt ashamed in front of the people of the city

So this time also Shri Krishna increased his weight and sat on the scale. Satyabhama put as much gold on the other pan as was equal to Shri Krishna’s weight, but the scale did not move at all. By then all the people of the city had come to see this incident. After that Satyabhama asked her servants to bring all the jewellery that she had. She kept putting the jewellery one after the other and was thinking that the work will be done but nothing happened. Then she put everything that she had but the scale did not move at all. After this incident Satyabhama started crying and was also ashamed in front of everyone. The whole city was watching and she did not have enough gold. The wealth that Satyabhama used to be proud of was also not enough today. She was not able to understand what to do?

Then she looked at Rukmini, whom she hated very much. She asked Rukmini, “What should I do now because this is very shameful not only for me but also for you and all of us.” Then Rukmini went out and brought three leaves of the Tulsi plant. As soon as she placed those leaves on the other side of the scale, Krishna’s side immediately came up. This way Satyabhama realized her mistake.
