The release of Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency, based on the life of the former Prime Minister of the country, has been stopped. It has been told that the film has not got permission from the censor board. Questions are being raised that when there is a BJP government at the center and the censor board has people appointed on the recommendation of the BJP government, then how and why was a BJP MP’s film stopped? It has become difficult for the BJP to answer its own supporters. Kangana Ranaut’s supporters are constantly attacking the party that why the government is not supporting Kangana.
Kangana supporters are arguing that right has been shown as wrong in IC-814, but that is not a crime. But if everything is being said correctly in Emergency, then why are people’s sentiments getting hurt. Actually, Sikh organizations are angry about the film Emergency. SGPC has already opposed this film. Some Sikhs have also issued a video threatening to kill Kangana. Sikh organizations say that Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale has been shown as a terrorist in the film, other Sikhs have been shown killing people with assault rifles. Every person in India knows that at one time in Punjab, Khalistani terrorists had killed many Hindus. Indira Gandhi was also murdered by security guards named Beant Singh and Satwant Singh. Indira Gandhi’s killers are glorified from Canada to Punjab. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the people there have even sent the son of one of Indira Gandhi’s killers to Parliament. Obviously, how can this truth be denied?
1- BJP does not want unnecessary controversy regarding Punjab
In fact, Sikhs have been angry with the BJP government since the time of the farmers’ movement in the country. Every effort of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to please the Sikhs has failed. Due to the farmers’ movement, the Akali Dal, an old ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party, is also no longer with it. The biggest Sikh leaders in Punjab are in the BJP, yet the BJP does not get votes here. Another thing is that the country’s largest minority community is angry with the BJP. Therefore, the party now does not want to take any such step which may anger another minority community. The number of Sikhs is less than that of Muslims but due to many reasons, they become more important for the country.
In the recent Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party did not get the expected success in Punjab but the vote percentage of BJP is continuously increasing. BJP hopes that it will be in the fight in the next assembly elections. Therefore, the party wants that there should not be any controversy regarding Sikhs which may harm BJP in Punjab. This is the reason why the party has distanced itself from Kangana Ranaut’s statement on the farmers’ movement. Not only this, the party has also advised Kangana Ranaut to stay away from such statements.
Recently, Kangana had said in her interview that in the name of farmers’ movement, miscreants were spreading violence in Punjab. Rapes and murders were happening there. The farmers bill was withdrawn otherwise these miscreants had a very long-term plan. They could do anything in the country. After this statement, surprisingly, the party did not support her. BJP is showing the same attitude regarding Kangana’s film Emergency. It is clear that the Bharatiya Janata Party is not in the mood to spoil its image among the Sikhs of Punjab due to Kangana.
2- Are Sikhs protesting against ‘Emergency’ because of Kangana?
Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut had strongly opposed the farmers’ movement. Due to a statement given by her during the farmers’ movement, a female security guard deployed at Chandigarh airport attacked her. Actually, during the movement, Kangana had said that women were hired to sit on the dharna there. The security guard accused of the attack said that his mother was also among those who sat on the dharna. Actually, this slap of the security guard was a symbol of the kind of poison that has been filled in the Sikhs against Kangana. During the farmers’ movement, she had a heated argument with Punjabi singer Daljit Dosanjh on Twitter. Both of them had said a lot to each other.
A former Sikh MP from Haryana had also recently made a venomous statement against Kangana. The MP had said that Kangana should be asked about her rape experience. Actually, all this is venom against Kangana which comes out from time to time. Sikhs would not have protested against the emergency imposed on Indira Gandhi if there was another star cast in this film instead of Kangana.
There are many films in the country which show terrorism in Punjab. But those films were not opposed because Kangana was not in them. Seeing Kangana, even Sikhs feel that Kangana has made this film intentionally. Another thing is that after the farmers’ movement, the Sikh community is so filled with hatred towards Kangana that people are even threatening to kill her.
Along with this, whether it is the country’s media or social media, things are evaluated on the basis of what the matter is related to. The IC-814 web series was bound to be opposed because it was made by Anubhav Sinha. Anubhav’s films have a different agenda which the liberals of the country readily accept. In the same way, the so-called liberals were bound to oppose Kangana’s films.
3- Is BJP worried about the glorification of Indira Gandhi?
The BJP must be worried about another fear regarding the Emergency. The BJP has been agitated from Parliament to the streets since last month over the imposition of the Emergency in 1975. Meanwhile, on several occasions, the central government has tried to corner the Congress over the Emergency. In fact, the way the Congress is trying to corner the BJP in the name of the Constitution, the BJP also reminds the Congress of the Emergency to put it in the dock. Meanwhile, the controversy over the movie Emergency has started.
It is obvious that Kangana Ranaut must have made Emergency such a film in which Indira Gandhi cannot be proved great. But the way she is going among the public and glorifying Indira Gandhi for destroying the Khalistan movement, it seems that the public’s resentment towards Indira Gandhi regarding the Emergency period may turn into her support.
A police complaint has been filed against actress Kangana Ranaut over an Instagram story in which she allegedly called the entire Sikh community as Khalistani terrorists and said that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi crushed them under her shoes like mosquitoes.
Kangana Ranaut wrote in her Instagram post that Khalistani terrorists are putting pressure on the government today. But we should not forget a woman. The only woman Prime Minister had crushed them under her shoe. No matter how much pain they caused to this country, she crushed them like mosquitoes at the cost of her life, but did not let the country be divided. Even decades after her death, they still tremble at her name. They need a Guru like that.
