Ian Cameron was a renowned former Rolls-Royce designer who was tragically stabbed to death during a robbery at his $3 million mansion in Herrsching, Germany.
Cameron joined Rolls-Royce in 1998 following BMW’s acquisition of the company and served as the head of design until his retirement in 2013. During his tenure, he was instrumental in shaping the design of iconic Rolls-Royce models such as the Phantom, Ghost, 3 Series, and Z8.
BMW praised Cameron’s significant contributions, stating that “Ian played a significant role in shaping Rolls-Royce from when it was first acquired by BMW Group and moved to its home at Goodwood, West Sussex. During Ian’s tenure, he led the design team for all Phantom family and Ghost models, creating thoroughly contemporary motor cars that remained sympathetic to the marque’s design lineage.”
After retiring from Rolls-Royce, Cameron continued to work as a brand ambassador for the company and launched his own design consultancy. He was also known as a respected vintage car expert.
The tragic incident occurred on July 14, 2024, when the 74-year-old Cameron was fatally stabbed during a robbery at his residence. According to the police, the power cables to the garage, which housed valuable items, had been deliberately cut. The suspect, described as a tall individual wearing light-colored pants, a dark-blue sweatshirt, yellow-green gloves, and a red backpack, fled the scene on foot.

Authorities have launched an extensive manhunt, involving search dogs and helicopters, to locate the assailant. BMW expressed their deep shock and sadness over the loss of Cameron, stating that their “thoughts are with his family and friends during these difficult hours.”
