IAS Dharmendra Kumar has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Delhi. He will take charge from September 1. Dharmendra Kumar is a 1989 batch IAS officer who is currently posted in Arunachal Pradesh.

In fact, after taking over as the Chief Secretary of Delhi, the biggest challenge before Dharmendra Kumar may be to bridge the gap between the elected government of Delhi, the bureaucracy and the Lieutenant Governor. Known for his calm behavior, it will be important for Dharmendra to maintain this image. He is taking over his responsibility a few months before the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, which has made his responsibility even more important. Dharmendra Kumar’s experience includes his tenure as the Chairman of NDMC and former Environment Secretary of Delhi, which gives him valuable direction in the administrative challenges of the city.

Dharmendra Kumar will replace Naresh Kumar

Let us tell you that Dharmendra Kumar will replace Naresh Kumar, who was given two extensions after his retirement on November 30, 2023. He got the first extension for six months and the second extension was for three months.

Naresh Kumar is a 1987 batch IAS officer and the former NDMC chief was considered a close aide of the central government and LG VK Saxena. Several high-profile investigations took place during his tenure, including into alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy and the construction of the Chief Minister’s residence. Both Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia faced jail during his reign, making his tenure quite controversial.

Naresh Kumar’s tenure will be remembered for important events such as the Supreme Court’s decision on services and the subsequent passage of a bill in Parliament to amend the Delhi Services Act. His tenure as chief secretary was marked by constant confrontation with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.
