Who is 1989 batch IAS Govind Mohan, who has been appointed as the new Home Secretary

Govind Mohan, a 1989 batch IAS officer of Sikkim cadre, has been appointed as the new Home Secretary on Wednesday. He will replace Ajay Kumar Bhalla, a 1984 batch IAS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre, who was appointed as the Union Home Secretary in August 2019.

Govind Mohan did his schooling from St. Joseph College in Dehradun and St. Francis College in Lucknow. His father is the Chief Engineer in PWD in UP. Mohan is counted among those honest officers who are known for working without coming in any limelight.

Govind Mohan has obtained a postgraduate diploma in management (July 1986-March 1988) from IIM Ahmedabad. After this, he has studied from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. Govind Mohan has worked for a long time in the Ministry of Culture. He also has experience of working in the Ministry of Home Affairs. Govind Mohan has also worked for a long time in the Department of Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Finance. Sikkim cadre officer Govind Mohan has also been the Chief Resident Commissioner, who maintains contact with the agencies of the central government and expedites various proposals of the Sikkim government.

Who is Ajay Bhalla?

Ajay Kumar Bhalla, a 1984 batch officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre, was appointed as the Union Home Secretary in August 2019. Bhalla was to retire in November 2020, but before that the central government extended his tenure till August 22, 2021 by giving him a one-year extension in October 2020.

The central government has appointed IRS officer Rahul Naveen as the director of the Enforcement Directorate. He is a 1993 batch IRS officer. He was working as the acting director of the agency till now. He was made the acting director of ED on September 15 last year after the completion of the tenure of Sanjay Kumar Mishra.

Before being appointed as the ED’s in-charge director, Rahul Naveen was working with Sanjay Mishra. By working with him, he gained experience in running the agency. A committee headed by Prime Minister Modi has appointed Rahul Naveen as the head of ED. For example, he has been promoted from acting director to ED chief.
