Samajwadi Party’s national president Akhilesh Yadav has taken a jibe at the renaming of eight railway stations in Uttar Pradesh. He said that when you get free time from changing names, then take out some time and think about preventing record-breaking rail accidents.
The SP chief said that the BJP government is requested to change not just the names of railway stations but also their conditions. Let us tell you that the stations in UP whose names have been changed have been named after the religious identity of the district and great men. The stations whose names have been changed include Jais station, Akbarganj station, Fursatganj railway station, Warisganj halt station, Nihalgarh station, Bani railway station, Misrauli station and Kasimpur halt station.
Jais station has been renamed as Guru Gorakhnath Dham. Akbarganj station has been renamed as Maa Ahorva Bhavani Dham. Fursatganj railway station has been renamed as Tapeshwar Dham, Warisganj halt station has been renamed as Amar Shaheed Bhale Sultan. Nihalgarh station has been renamed as Maharaja Bijli Pasi station, Bani railway station will be renamed as Swami Paramhans station, Misrauli station has been renamed as Maa Kalikan Dham. Kasimpur halt station has been renamed as Jais City.

The name of Pratapgarh was changed in 2023
Earlier in the year 2023, the names of railway stations in Uttar Pradesh were changed. This included Pratapgarh, Antu and Bishnathganj of North Railway Lucknow Division. Pratapgarh was renamed as Maa Belha Devi Dham Pratapgarh Junction and Antu was renamed as Maa Chandrika Devi Dham Antu. At the same time, Bishnathganj was renamed as Shanidev Dham Bishnathganj.

The name of Mughal Sarai was changed first
Apart from this, Jhansi railway station was renamed as Veerangana Laxmibai railway station and the names of Faizabad, Allahabad, Mughalsarai stations have also been changed. Jhansi railway station has been renamed as Veerangana Laxmibai railway station. Faizabad railway station has been renamed as Ayodhya Cantt. In August 2018, Mughalsarai station was renamed as Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay station. Kanpur’s Panki station was renamed as Panki Dham.
