When actress Mita went to the cemetery to meet Irrfan, on seeing the coffin she said- ‘Chalo Bye’

Actress Mita Vashisht, who has worked in the TV industry and Bollywood, has talked about the death of legendary actor Irrfan in a new interview. The actress said that she had already guessed that Irrfan was going to leave this world. Mita and Irrfan are batchmates of the National School of Drama. The friendship between the two was very deep. Irrfan’s wife Sutapa was also Mita Vashisht’s roommate in NSD.

How did Mita reach Irrfan’s funeral?

In Lallantop’s special program ‘Guest in the Newsroom’, Mita Vashisht told the story of attending Irrfan’s funeral. She said, ‘Lockdown had just happened at that time. People were very scared. Ashok (Mita and Irrfan’s friend) came from Goregaon. He said to me, ‘We have to go to Irrfan’s funeral, right?’ I said, ‘We have to go, no matter what.’ We went with our faces completely covered because it was the first phase of the lockdown. The media was standing there. We didn’t even show our faces. We kept telling the graveyard man to let us go. He was our batchmate. Irrfan was a big star at that time. Some people were also coming who had nothing to do with Irrfan. They would show their faces to the media. Due to which the media would go crazy. We didn’t even show our faces. Who are we?’

In the conversation, Mita further told how they entered the cemetery. She said, ‘Finally, Ashok was able to go. We were standing for two hours. It was very hot. We were not even opening our mouths. We were calling the people inside to let us in. When finally the barricade was removed, they said you go. Actually women cannot go to the cemetery. There was a grill there and I saw Irfan’s coffin. It was going. I said, ‘Bye!’ Then suddenly I don’t know what happened and everyone turned. The coffin went past me. There was some problem. I laughed a lot… I said, ‘See, he has come to say bye’.

There was a suspicion even before the actor’s death

Mita told that she had a premonition of Irrfan’s death a few weeks before the actor’s death. She said, ‘We had a very long conversation in a dream a week or ten days before Irrfan’s death. He came and said, it’s been a long time, friend. We haven’t met. I remember we talked for 45 minutes in dream time. We were laughing a lot. And when I opened my eyes, I felt very peaceful. Very happy. I said, he is going to leave. He is not going to stay. Maybe Irrfan will leave in 1-2 days. I called one of our friends. Who is close to him. Numerologist, whom he had been consulting for many years. I called him, ‘Where is Irrfan?’ So he said he is at his farm house in Igatpuri. I asked, ‘How is Irrfan?’ He said he is fine. Because he was also in London for treatment.’

The actress further said, ‘It was Anup who kept telling me where he was. He did not talk much then. I asked, ‘How is Irrfan?’ He said he is fine. I said, ‘No, he is not going to stay for long. He will leave. Maybe this weekend’. I said, ‘I want to meet him’. Then he said that he is not meeting anyone. Only Sutapa and the two children are there. He has isolated himself. That was the weekend. But by the next weekend, he was gone. Such connections are so strange.’

Irrfan Khan was battling cancer for a long time. On 28 April 2020, he was admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai after a colon infection. The actor died in the same hospital on 29 April. Irrfan was 53 years old. He lived with his wife Sutapa and two children Babil and Ayan.
