What kind of museum is this… where people go without clothes, there are such photos and statues inside

There are many strange things in the world which require a lot of courage to see or reach there. Now you will think that we are talking about some adventure like roaming in caves, trekking or paragliding. So it is not like that but it is no less than a dangerous adventure.

This is a special museum in France where a unique exhibition will be held every month for only one day from now till December. But the strange thing is that this museum allows visitors to be nude for entry. However, shoes can be worn to walk on the wooden floor and avoid dirt.

Why should visitors come naked?

This museum is in the city of Marseille, France, which is known as Marseille Museum. Actually this museum is exhibiting nude paintings depicting the history of naturism in Europe and wants people to come without clothes and connect with these paintings.

The exhibition features a wide range of art pieces, including photographs, films, paintings, magazines, sculptures and more, drawn from naturalist communities and public and private collections in France and Switzerland, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Louvre and the Swiss National Library in Bern, AFP reported.

The museum’s announcement of nude visitors was a culture shock for most people. Two people from England were surprised to see how liberal the attitude towards nudity is here. Kieran Parker-Hall and Xander Parry, who were roaming around the museum without any clothes, told AFP that it was a ‘once in a lifetime opportunity’ for them because England is not that open to naturists. It would be a shame there.

Marseilles and the Naturist Movement

The museum highlights France as the world’s leading tourist spot for those who like to be naked outdoors. The naturist movement in Switzerland and Germany began in the 19th century, Bruno Suarez, head of the local naturist association, told AFP. In France, however, the first naturist group emerged in the southeastern Provence region in the 1930s and quickly spread across the country. Marseille, partly due to its mild climate, is considered a stronghold of naturists in France and hosts several dedicated centres.

‘Can we come to the museum wearing clothes?’

But can fully clothed visitors enter the museum? A spokesman for the museum told AFP that this could be seen as a bit odd because it is logical for those who book tickets to be somewhat nude. The exhibition will run until 9 December.
