What is the government order on registration of temples, monasteries and trusts in Bihar? Understand what action will be taken against those who do not obey

Amidst the controversy over the Wakf Board Amendment Bill, the Bihar government has taken a big decision. In Bihar, the government has instructed the District Magistrates of all the districts to compulsorily register the temples and monasteries running without registration in their districts.

The state government said that along with this, the complete details of their immovable properties should be submitted to the State Religious Trust Board. It is mandatory to upload the details of these monasteries and temples, the details of their properties on the website of the Religious Trust Board.

Bihar State Religious Trust Board i.e. BSBRT comes under the Law Department of the state government. Bihar Law Minister Nitin Naveen said that letters were issued to DMs of all districts and instructions were given to compulsorily register all temples, monasteries and trusts.

He also instructed the DM to collect the details of immovable properties of all registered temples and monasteries and make them available to BSBRT immediately so that it can be uploaded on the website. He said that I have sent a letter to all the District Magistrates in this regard. But till now only 18 districts have submitted the data to BSBRT.

The minister said that according to the Bihar Hindu Religious Trust Act, 1950, it is mandatory for all temples, monasteries, trusts and dharamshalas to register under BSBRT. Information about the properties of registered temples, monasteries and trusts should be made public so that action can be taken against those who sell or purchase it in an illegal manner.

According to the latest data of BSBRT, there are currently about 2512 unregistered temples and monasteries in the state while there are 2499 registered temples. Statistics show that the highest number of unregistered temples and monasteries are in Vaishali. There are 438 unregistered temples and monasteries in Vaishali, 307 in Kaimur, 273 in West Champaran, 191 in Bhagalpur, 185 in Begusarai, 154 in Saran, 152 in Gaya.
