What did Mamata Banerjee say that enraged the Chief Ministers of Assam, Odisha and Manipur?

After the Kolkata rape-murder case, West Bengal is in the headlines. The Nabanra campaign was started by the students in the state. After this, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) called for a ‘Bengal Bandh’ on Wednesday. After the bandh called by the BJP, pictures emerged from different areas of the state. After the matter escalated, Abhishek Banerjee from the Trinamool Congress held a press conference and put the central Modi government in the dock and after this, Chief Minister Mamata also made a statement.

Wednesday was also the foundation day of Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad, the student unit of TMC. On this occasion, in her speech, Mamata Banerjee fiercely attacked the BJP and its top leadership and made several allegations against the party.

Himanta Biswa Sarma got angry on Mamata’s statement

After Mamata Banerjee’s statement, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hit back at her. CM Sarma wrote in a social media post, ‘Didi, how dare you threaten Assam? Don’t show us red eyes. Don’t even try to burn India with the politics of failure. It does not suit you to speak divisive language.’

Union Minister and Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar also targeted Mamata. He said, ‘This comment does not seem to be of a leader holding a constitutional post, but of someone with an ‘anti-national’ mentality.’

Odisha and Manipur CM are also angry with Mamata

After Mamata Banerjee’s statement, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed his displeasure through a social media post. He said, ‘How dare Didi threaten the Northeast? I strongly condemn such irresponsible remarks. She should publicly apologize to the Northeast and the rest of the country. Mamata ji should immediately stop inciting violence and hatred through divisive politics. It is extremely inappropriate for a political leader to threaten violence on a public platform.’

On the other hand, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Mamata’s statement, ‘Who gave you the right to make such objectionable statements about Odisha? Odisha is a peaceful state and the people here are responsible and aware. The people of Odisha will never accept your hateful attitude, negative comments and insensitive attitude towards our state.’

He further said that without giving justice to the victim of a heinous crime, you are making vindictive comments. This is dangerous for the country. Please stay away from such statements, keep calm.

What did Mamata Banerjee say after all?

CM Mamata Banerjee warned the party while speaking on the ‘Bengal Bandh’ called by BJP. She said that the fire that BJP wants to ignite in Bengal will spread far and wide. Mamata said, ‘If Bengal is set on fire, Assam, North-East, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Delhi will also burn. We will topple your chair.’

Mamata said, “Some people are thinking that it is Bangladesh. I love Bangladesh, their culture and food are similar to ours but Bangladesh is a different country and India is a different country. Modi Babu, you want this fire to spread in Bengal, then you should understand that if Bengal catches fire, Assam will not survive, Bihar will not survive, it will not be limited to Manipur or Odisha. It will reach Delhi as well,”

Speaking at Wednesday’s event, Mamata Banerjee also vowed to bring a law through the assembly to ensure ‘death penalty’ in rape cases. Meanwhile, TMC leader and Mamata’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee promised to introduce a private member bill in Parliament for an anti-rape law to prevent crimes against women.

Both leaders, Mamata and Abhishek Banerjee, targeted the BJP for the Nabanna Abhiyan (protest at the secretariat) and the Bengal bandh and accused it of hatching a ‘conspiracy to spread anarchy in Bengal’. The CM urged the protesting doctors to return to work.
