West Bengal is furious over the brutality against the lady doctor, Mamta Banerjee said- we will get the culprits hanged

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has reacted to the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. She has described the incident as unfortunate and disgusting. The Chief Minister said, ‘It feels like a personal loss to me. Their (resident doctors’) anger and demands are justified. I support it. The police have also accepted their demands. I was in Jhargram yesterday, but was keeping an eye on all the developments. I have spoken to the victim’s family and assured them of appropriate action in this case.’

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that I have directed to take the case to a fast-track court. If needed, the accused will be hanged, although I am not a supporter of the death penalty. But they should get the harshest punishment. She said that one accused has been arrested. We have ensured that not a single doctor protesting over this incident faces any kind of problem. Those who are protesting, if they feel that they do not trust the state administration, they can contact any other investigating agency. I have no problem with this. We want a proper and thorough investigation and strict punishment for the culprits.

Mamata Banerjee said that just as it is our responsibility to ensure law and order, the hospital superintendent also has a responsibility. We will also investigate whether there was negligence on his part. I am in constant touch with the police. Doctors can continue their protest, but at the same time they should also treat the patients. If the victim’s family demands an investigation by a central agency, we have no objection. Because we have nothing to hide. The CP of Kolkata was in the hospital the whole time and he was in touch with me till 2 pm.

A seven-member SIT has been formed to investigate the matter

The Chief Minister said that the accused who has been caught used to work in the medical college itself. Proper caution should be taken. Losing a colleague affects everyone. There are two junior doctors in my family too. I was with them (doctors) earlier and will always be with them. If needed, I will send it to the Principal Secretary and CP again. If there is any demand from the family or resident doctors and they want to get the case investigated by any other agency, then they are welcome.
