The Supreme Court has put an end to the ongoing controversy over the UGC NET exam. The Supreme Court on Monday refused to consider the petition against the government’s decision to cancel UGC-NET on the basis of question paper leak. Let us tell you that a petition was filed in the Supreme Court challenging the cancellation of UGC-NET 2024 (University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test) on the basis of paper leak.

The exam will not be cancelled, re-examination will be held on 21st August

The petition filed by a group of UGC NET candidates has sought immediate intervention of the apex court to stop the decision to conduct a fresh examination. However, the Supreme Court refused to consider the petition of the group of candidates challenging the decision to postpone the UGC-NET 2024 examination due to alleged paper leak. A bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud and comprising Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra. Refusing to consider the petition, the bench said that let there be a final decision, we are not in a perfect world. Let the examinations be held on August 21. There should be certainty for the students. That is, the examination for all the candidates will be conducted from August 21 to September 4.

What did the CJI say?

During the hearing, the CJI said, ‘How can we cancel now?’ On this, the counsel for the students said that ‘the investigation was done according to doctoral messages on paper leak. It includes nine lakh students.’ After this, the hearing said that UGC-NET was conducted on June 2024. The union canceled the exam on June 19, resulting in a new exam on August 21. At the present stage, the petitioners have challenged the decision, almost 2 months have passed. Considering the petition will only increase uncertainty and it will result in complete chaos.

The exam was canceled due to some problem

Let us tell you that the Ministry of Education canceled the UGC-NET June 2024 examination held in various cities of the country on June 18, 2024. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the examination in OMR (pen and paper) mode in two shifts. On June 19, 2024, the University Grants Commission (UGC) received some inputs from the National Cyber ​​Crime Threat Analytics Unit (NCTAU) of the Indian Cyber ​​Crime Coordination Center of the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the examination. These inputs prima facie indicated that there was a disturbance in the conducted examination.
