Wayanad Landslides: Sky-borne disaster is hampering rescue operation, heavy rain alert issued in 9 districts of Kerala including Wayanad even today

The death toll in the landslide following heavy rains in Wayanad, Kerala has reached close to 256. After the fury of nature broke out on Wayanad on Monday, the fast flow of water from the hilltop changed the direction of the small Iruvazhinji river, submerging everything on its banks. Where greenery was visible earlier, now only debris is visible. Before the landslide, the river was flowing in a straight line and villages were settled on the banks, but now the river has covered the entire area.

Rescue operation will be attempted today in Attamala, Mundakai and Choorlamalla

The situation has become so serious that even after 3 days the rescue operation has not been completed. Four entire villages in Wayanad have been wiped out after the landslide. Due to heavy rains, the rescue operation is facing difficulties due to mud, rocks and large pieces of trees. It is expected that by this afternoon a 190 feet bridge will be ready between Choorlamalla and Mundakkai. Efforts are being made today to rescue the people trapped in Attamala, Mundakai and Choorlamalla but the weather may hinder it.
