Senior BJP leader Gyandev Ahuja (Gyandev Ahuja) stirred up a controversy on Saturday when he linked the landslide in Wayanad to the practice of cow slaughter in Kerala (Cow slaughter in Kerala) linked. The former Rajasthan MLA claimed that wherever cow slaughter takes place, such incidents will keep happening. It may be noted that on July 30, landslides occurred in several villages in Wayanad, including Mundakai, Choorlamalla and Meppadi.
The death toll in Kerala’s Wayanad landslide climbed to 358 on Saturday, according to the latest update from the state government, with rescue teams using deep search radars to look for survivors trapped under debris and in collapsed houses.

Speaking to the media, Ahuja insisted that the landslide in Wayanad was a direct result of cow slaughter, warning that unless the practice is stopped in Kerala, similar tragedies will continue. He said natural disasters like cloudbursts and landslides occur frequently in regions like Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, but they do not lead to disasters of this magnitude.
“Since 2018, we have noticed a pattern where such tragic incidents occur in areas involved in cow slaughter,” Ahuja said. “If cow slaughter is not stopped, similar tragedies will continue to occur in Kerala.”
Searching for survivors under the rubble
It is noteworthy that more than 1,300 rescue workers with heavy machinery and state-of-the-art equipment are searching for survivors in destroyed buildings and under debris.
