Wayanad landslide: 144 people died in the landslide devastation, Malayalam industry postponed film release

Due to the disaster that has struck Wayanad in Kerala, 144 people have died so far. In fact, three landslides occurred in the hilly areas near Meppadi within 4 hours on the morning of July 30, causing devastation in Mundakkai, Choorlamala, Attamala and Noolpuzha villages. Hundreds of people were swept away in the Chaliyar river. According to government figures, more than 180 people are feared to be trapped in the debris. State government agencies including the Army and the NDRF are carrying out rescue operations. The next week is still said to be dangerous.

Cancelled events-film release postponed
The Army and NDRF have come forward to help the people in such times. Along with this, the Malayalam film industry has also extended a helping hand. The film industry observed a minute’s silence for those who lost their lives in this disaster. Also, film releases and major events have been postponed.

The release date of the thriller film ‘Footage’, which is made by Saiju Sridharan, has been postponed. However, it has not been told yet when it will be released. The film makers shared a post on social media and wrote – Our prayers are with the people of Wayanad. The film ‘Footage’ was to be released on August 2, but now that will not happen. It will be released on some other day. For now, its release has been postponed. Let us tell you that Gayatri Ashok, Vishak Nair and Manju Warrier will be seen in lead roles in the film.

Apart from this, the release of Tovino Thomas’s big budget film Ajayante Randam Moshanam has also been rescheduled. This film is directed by Jitin Lal. The makers shared the post and wrote – In view of the disaster that has happened in Wayanad, we will not give the update that we had to give on July 31. The update of the film has been postponed. The South Indian Film Academy has also postponed its film Vidyarambham. The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists has cancelled the press conference of Entertainment Awards Night.
