Water came over the house, everything was washed away in no time… CCTV footage of Wayanad landslide surfaced

Pictures of a dangerous landslide have once again surfaced in Wayanad, Kerala. The scene of the landslide is visible in the CCTV footage of a bakery located in Choorlamala in Wayanad. These pictures of the landslide are from the night time. This video is from the time when the landslide occurred in Wayanad. The horrific scene of the landslide can be seen in the video.

In a sad reminder of the growing impact of climate change, a recent study by the World Weather Attribution Group found that the landslide that struck Wayanad district in Kerala on July 30, 2024, was made more severe due to human-induced climate change.

More than 200 people lost their lives in the landslide. Climate change caused 10 percent more rainfall.

The study said that single-day monsoon rainfall in Wayanad has been extremely heavy and the rainfall on July 30 was the third heaviest in the region.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had said that the area received 572 mm of rain in just 48 hours, more than double the predicted amount, leading to the devastating landslide.

The World Weather Attribution group has warned that if the global temperature rises by 2 degrees Celsius, single-day rainfall events in Kerala could increase by an additional 4 per cent, increasing the likelihood of landslides in the future.
