Was the meat that arrived at Bengaluru station from Jaipur dog meat? Police had to be deployed, FSSAI took samples and started investigation

There was a sensation in Karnataka’s capital Bengaluru over the claim that dog meat was being served to people in local hotels. After this, an investigation has been started. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has started investigating a shipment of suspicious meat that arrived at Bengaluru railway station on Friday and has also taken samples. The suspicion about dog meat increased further when the officials felt that the meat was of some other animal instead of goat.

FSSAI officials had received a complaint about suspicious meat coming from the train. After this, the officials reached the railway station and took samples of the meat and sent it to the lab for testing. Many local media claim that this could be dog meat but there is no official confirmation of this yet. Samples have been taken by FSSAI to find out which animal’s meat it is.

FSSAI started investigation into the matter

Vikas Kishore, Special Commissioner of Health and Animal Husbandry, BBMP said about this matter, ‘Today when the meat delivery reached the railway station, a complaint was lodged with FSSAI. To check the authenticity of the meat, FSSAI officials have taken samples which will reveal which animal it belongs to. When did it arrive, I have ordered an immediate investigation.’

Let us tell you that this action has been taken after the Bangalore Metropolitan Corporation (BBMP) received a complaint last time regarding the quality of meat served in local hotels. In view of this, BBMP started an investigation in collaboration with FSSAI after a new shipment of meat arrived.

What did BBMP say?

BBMP Special Commissioner (Health and Animal Husbandry) Vikas Kishore said, “The complaint was lodged earlier and an inquiry was ordered, BBMP officials also visited the place and they are yet to submit their report.”

He said, ‘Today a social media post again brought it to my notice after which I inquired about the spot inspection report and sent the concerned Animal Husbandry (BBMP) officials to the spot. They are coordinating with FSSAI officials and the police department to investigate it after which further action will be taken.

Regarding this matter, railway sources said that a consignment of three tonnes of meat in about 150 boxes arrived at Bengaluru City Railway Station from Jaipur. According to the news agency, a cow protector Puneeth Kerehalli (who had earlier gone to jail on murder charges) claimed that it was dog meat.

The person who ordered the meat gave an explanation

However, Abdul Razzaq, the meat seller who ordered the meat, rejected the allegation. He said, ‘This consignment was ordered legally and it is not dog meat but mutton.’

The meat trader said, ‘We have legal documents to prove it, anyone can see the tail of that animal. It is a sheep, not a dog. He alleged that Kerehalli wants to make money from him by making false allegations. Due to the uproar, a large number of people gathered there after which police have been deployed there.
