Wakf Board Act, Modi government is going to make major amendments in the Waqf Act. According to sources, the cabinet has approved about 40 amendments in the Waqf Act. According to the information, the central government wants to curb the powers of the Waqf Board to make any property a Waqf property. According to the 40 proposed amendments, the claims made by the Waqf Boards on the properties will be verified compulsorily. Mandatory verification has also been proposed for the disputed properties of the Waqf Board. Sources said that a bill to amend the Waqf Act can be introduced in the Parliament next week.

5th August has been a special day in the Modi government

According to sources, the government can present the amendment bill in the Waqf Act in Parliament on August 5. The date of August 5 holds special importance in the Modi government. Because on August 5, 2019, the bill to remove Section 370 from Jammu and Kashmir was presented in the Parliament. After this, on August 5, 2020, the Bhoomi Pujan for the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya was done by PM Modi. According to sources, Waqf boards have about 8.7 lakh properties. In 2013, the Congress-led UPA government amended the Basic Waqf Act and gave more rights to the Waqf boards. To take back the property declared as its own by the Waqf Board, the land owner has to run around in court. The Waqf Board got the authority to declare any property as its own in 2013 during the then UPA government.

The powers of the Wakf Board may be curbed

Let us tell you, earlier the central government had taken cognizance of the wide rights of the Waqf Boards in the state to claim any property and the delay in the survey of such property in most states. The government had also considered the possibility of involving district magistrates in monitoring Waqf properties to prevent misuse of property. An appeal against any decision of the Waqf Board can only be made to the court, but there is no time limit for decisions on such appeals. The decision of the court is final. At the same time, there is no provision for appeal in the High Court except PIL.

Let us tell you, Waqf means to dedicate trust property for public welfare. This is a kind of system in Islam. Waqf is the property that is donated by people who believe in Islam. This wealth comes under the Waqf Board. Any adult Muslim person can transfer the property in his name to the Waqf Board.
