Violence erupted again in Manipur, tension after drone attack and firing, one woman died

Violence has started here once again after Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh rejected the demand for a separate administration for the Kuki-Jo community. Fresh violence erupted on the outskirts of Imphal, in which a woman died and four others were injured. After this attack, the security forces are on alert.

It is being told that in the latest incident of violence, two policemen have also been injured, whose condition is said to be stable. The firing started at 2:35 pm on Sunday from Nakhujang village of Kangpokpi near Kadangband.

Claim to drop bomb from drone

The police have maintained silence on the latest violence, and people in the Kadangband area claim that a drone dropped a “bomb” on a house. Locals also shared purported videos of drones dropping bombs, with people running for their lives. However, the videos have not been verified.

Woman killed in attack, daughter injured

A 31-year-old Ngambam Surabala died in the attack. She was brought dead to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal, 45 km from Kangpokpi. Her six-year-old daughter was also injured in the attack, suffering serious injuries on her right hand.

Violence has been going on in Manipur since May 2023

Kangpokpi is a Kuki-dominated area, while Imphal West falls in the Meitei-dominated valley. There has been a conflict between the Meitei community and the Kuki tribes over various issues since May 2023. Members of the Meitei community allege that “Kuki terrorists” killed the woman, while social media users of the Kuki tribes claim that the Meitei first fired on the Kuki villages of Kangpokpi.

CM Singh’s interview

Protests erupted in Manipur on Friday after Chief Minister Biren Singh assured peace in an interview while rejecting the Kuki-Jo community’s demand for a separate administration. The Chief Minister said that this state will neither be broken nor will a separate administration be allowed here. He termed a question on PM Modi’s visit to the state as unnecessary.
