Regarding Vinesh’s increased weight, Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Sanjay Singh said, ‘The Government of India had provided Vinesh with a personal coach, personal physio and personal nutritionist. All the people are with her in the sports village. She fought for two days and her weight was the same. But how did her weight suddenly increase overnight, only her nutritionist will be able to answer this.’

Why does weight increase?

On the reasons for weight gain in one day, Dr. Nancy Nagpal says that there can be many reasons for athletes to gain so much weight in one day. One is that it is common for weight to fluctuate every day. Weight usually increases throughout the day by night anyway. This is why it is said that it is best to check weight in the morning. The doctor says that when you work throughout the day, the body keeps releasing fluid and this increases weight throughout the day and it becomes normal after the day at night.

Also, he told the reason for weight gain throughout the day that sometimes water retention in the cells increases, due to which weight increases. Sometimes if its quantity is more, then the weight increases a lot. Apart from this, if the athlete is about to have periods, then also weight can increase due to hormonal changes. Apart from this, the doctor says that lack of sleep and too much stress is also an important reason for weight gain. Weight increases due to these reasons.

Also, he said that it is quite common to gain weight during the day and sometimes it can increase up to 2 kg. There is nothing unusual in this and it happens often. Stress and lack of sleep are considered to be the main reasons for this.
