Vinesh Phogat Medal Case Updates: Hearing on wrestler Vinesh Phogat completed in Paris, it will be known tomorrow whether she will get the medal or not

The hearing of the Vinesh Phogat case in Paris Olympics 2024 was completed on 9 August (Friday). Now the whole country is waiting for the decision in this case. The decision in this case was earlier expected to come on 10 August (Saturday), but now the timeline of the decision has been extended. Now whether Vinesh will get silver or not… the decision on this will come on 11 August i.e. Sunday at 9.30 am Indian time. However, the detailed order of this decision will be issued later.

Australian judge will give verdict

Dr Annabelle Bennett AC SC will give the verdict in this case. Let us tell you that earlier CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sports) had set the time till 9.30 pm Indian time on 10 August to give its verdict. Usually the ad-hoc panel is given 24 hours to give its verdict. But now the date of the verdict has been extended again.

Vinesh Phogat on Wednesday appealed to CAS against her disqualification from the Olympic final and demanded that she be awarded a joint silver medal. The Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) was set up here to resolve any dispute arising during the 10-day period before the Olympic Games or the opening ceremony.

What is the work of CAS?

The Court of Arbitration for Sport is an independent body created to govern sports worldwide. Its job is to settle all legal disputes related to sports. The international body, established in 1984, works to settle disputes related to sports through arbitration. It is headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland and its courts are located in New York City, Sydney and Lausanne. Temporary courts are also set up in current Olympic host cities.

Let us tell you that all the parties were given the opportunity to file their detailed legal arguments before the hearing and then present oral arguments. The sole arbitrator indicated that the operative part of the order is expected soon, after which the detailed order and reasons will be put forward. IOA President Dr. PT Usha thanked senior advocates Harish Salve and Vidushpat Singhania as well as the Sports Legal Team for helping in presenting arguments on behalf of the IOA.

These arguments were given by Vinesh

1. Vinesh argued that she did not commit any fraud.

2. His weight gain was due to the body’s natural recovery process.

3. It was argued on behalf of Vinesh that it is the fundamental right of an athlete to take care of his or her body.

4. It was also argued on behalf of Vinesh that her body weight was less than the prescribed limit on the first day of the competition. The weight increased only due to recovery and this is not a case of cheating. It is her fundamental right to fulfill the nutrients required for her body to be healthy.
