Vice President Dhankhar in Maharashtra:Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman, Jagdeep Dhankhar will address the members of the Maharashtra Legislature on July 11, 2024. According to official sources, the Rajya Sabha Chairman has accepted the invitation extended by Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker, Rahul Narvekar and Deputy Chairman, Maharashtra Legislative Council, Dr Neelam Gore.
Jagdeep Dhankhar has been very vocal in Rajya Sabha for maintaining strict adherence to democratic values and parliamentary traditions and has from time to time criticised the growing tendency among members for disruption and unrest in Parliament and legislatures. Significantly, his address to the Maharashtra Legislature comes against the backdrop of multiple confrontations with Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge in the recently concluded session and the walkout by opposition members during the Prime Minister’s reply to the President’s address in Parliament.
‘This statement of P Chidambaram was described as an insult to the Parliament and the people of the country’
He had called the walkout of the members a gross insult to the Constitution and expressed strong displeasure over the Leader of Opposition of Rajya Sabha coming into the well of the House shouting slogans. Dhankhar had also recently reacted sharply to Congress leader P Chidambaram calling the MPs ‘part-timers’. He had called this statement of P Chidambaram an insult to the Parliament and the people of the state.
With the upcoming assembly elections and Rahul Gandhi and Sharad Pawar announcing their participation in the Pandharpur pilgrimage, it will be interesting to see what the Rajya Sabha Chairman says in the legislature.
