‘Very old relations with Russia’, India’s clear reply to America on PM Modi’s Moscow visit

The Foreign Ministry has now reacted to the US comment on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Russian visit earlier this month. Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal issued a statement saying that India has a very old relationship with Russia which is based on mutual interests. In a multipolar world, all countries have the freedom to choose their path. It is necessary for everyone to be aware of such realities and appreciate them.

In fact, US politician Donald Lu had said about PM Modi’s Russian visit that Modi’s hugging Putin and India’s purchase of oil and weapons is disappointing. US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu had said, “I am disappointed with the symbolism and timing of Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Russia. We are having tough conversations with our Indian friends.”

This is what the Ministry of External Affairs said on Trudeau’s threat

On reports of Canada charging two individuals for threatening to kill Prime Minister Trudeau and other leaders on social media, the Ministry of External Affairs said that we have seen these reports. When a democracy adopts different standards to measure or enforce the rule of law and freedom of expression, it only exposes its own double standards. We expect Canada to take action against anti-India elements who have repeatedly threatened Indian leaders, institutions, airlines and diplomats through violence. We want strict action, at the same level, on threats against us.

Two arrested for threatening Trudeau

Let us tell you that recently, two people from Alberta were arrested for issuing online threats against Trudeau and other Canadian political leaders. On June 6, a 23-year-old man was arrested for an online post on X in which he threatened to kill Trudeau. On June 13, a 67-year-old Edmonton resident was arrested for allegedly making similar threats. Alleged threats were also made to Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland and New Democratic Party leader Jagmeet Singh.

Regarding the situation in Bangladesh, the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs said that I can confirm that we have received a diplomatic notice from Bangladesh, protesting that the comments made by the West Bengal CM in the reports that have come out on this matter are not welcome. Foreign relations under Schedule 7 are the responsibility of the Central Government only.
