US Open 2024, Coco Gauff Rohan Bopanna: Tennis fans are currently enjoying the exciting matches of the Grand Slam US Open 2024 season. But a disappointing news came for them on Monday (September 2). Defending champion Coco Gauff suffered an upset in the women’s singles.

Apart from Coco Gauff, Indian fans also looked disappointed. In men’s doubles, Rohan Bopanna and Yuki Bhambri also lost and were eliminated. 20-year-old Coco Gauff was eliminated after losing in the fourth i.e. pre-quarterfinal round.

American tennis star Coco Gauff was up against compatriot Emma Navarro. 12th ranked Emma defeated third ranked Coco Gauff 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in this match. This match between the two stars lasted for 2 hours and 12 minutes. Let us tell you that Coco Gauff won the singles title of the 2023 US Open.

The pair of Bopanna and Matthew Ebden also lost and were eliminated

On the other hand, India’s challenge in the men’s doubles of the US Open tennis tournament ended with the defeat of Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden in the third round. The second seeded pair of Bopanna and Ebden lost to the 16th seeded Argentine pair of Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni 1-6, 5-7 in 66 minutes in a match played on Sunday night.

Bopanna and Ebden won the men’s doubles title at the Australian Open earlier this year. 44-year-old Bopanna has already announced his retirement from Davis Cup and it will be interesting to see whether he will take the court to defend his title at the Australian Open in January 2025.

Yuki Bhambri also lost in doubles and got eliminated

Sumit Nagal was knocked out of the men’s singles with an opening round loss, while Yuki Bhambri and N Sriram Balaji had earlier lost in the men’s doubles at different stages of the tournament. India’s Yuki Bhambri and his French partner Albano Olivetti were knocked out of the US Open on Sunday after losing to top seed Marcel Granollers and Horacia Zeballos in straight sets in the third round of the US Open men’s doubles. The top seeded pair of Spain and Argentina defeated the Indian and French pair 6-2, 6-2.

Bopanna’s challenge in mixed doubles is still on where he has paired up with Indonesia’s Aldila Sutjiadi. Interestingly, he and Ebden will now face each other. Ebden and Czech Republic’s Barbora Krejcikova have been given the fourth seed in mixed doubles.
