This missile was revealed in April this year when it was shown at a defense exhibition in Maryland. Not only this, Lockheed Martin wants the US Navy to also deploy it after the Air Force. A variant of the Mako missile that can be launched from submarines and warships is also being prepared.
What benefit does America get from this missile?
The Mako missile can be used to destroy anti-access and area denial (A2/AD) weapons and equipment of Russia and China in the Pacific Ocean. Till now, all the hypersonic missiles were very large in size, they could not fit in the internal bay of a fighter jet or bomber.
But the Meko missile is small in size and powerful. It is also light. Therefore, it can be deployed in the internal bay of F-35 and F-22 stealth fighter jets. That is, a combination of a dangerous fighter jet with a destructive missile. The third advantage is that no air defense system can stop it.
Like the Tomahawk missile, the Mako hypersonic missile can increase the strength of the US Army, Air Force and Navy manifold. It can be fitted on the exterior of any US aircraft. Apart from this, it can be fired from a launch tube so that the Navy can use it.
