UPS Rule: If you work in a government job for less than 10 years, you will not get even a rupee as pension… Do you know?

The Unified Pension Scheme i.e. UPS has been announced by the central government and it will come into effect from April 1, 2025 for central employees. Announcing the new pension scheme on behalf of the government, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had said on Saturday that 23 lakh employees will benefit from this. However, some rules have been fixed in this new scheme of the government, which is very important to know about. The most important thing in this is that the government has fixed a minimum pension of Rs 10,000, but to get it, it is also necessary to fulfill a condition, otherwise you will not get even 1 rupee pension.

Provision of minimum pension
In fact, if we look at the guidelines issued with the announcement of UPS, this scheme has been launched for 23 lakh employees working under the central government, which can also be implemented by the state governments as per their wish. Maharashtra has also approved it. Under this, 50 percent of the employee’s average basic salary of 12 months will be given for life after retirement, but it is necessary for the employees to work for at least 25 years. Along with this, a minimum pension of Rs 10,000 has also been mentioned in UPS.

This is the condition for a pension of Rs 10,000
The most important thing is related to this minimum pension of Rs 10,000. Actually, a condition has been imposed by the government for this, under which the employee will be entitled to this minimum pension only after serving for at least 10 years. It means that if you have worked for less than 10 years and even if your service is 9 years 11 months and 28 days, you will not get even Rs 1 as pension. Whereas if 10 years of service has been completed, then along with the assured pension, the benefit of DR will also be added to it.

If we talk about those who work for more than 10 years and less than 25 years, then the pension will be decided on the basis of a special formula. Suppose if an employee works for 24 years, then he may not get the minimum pension but a little less than the 50% fixed for 25 years or between 45-50%.

These are other big benefits of UPS
Talking about other benefits of UPS, after the death of the employee, 60 percent of the employee’s pension will be given to any eligible member of the family, whereas if an employee has served for only 10 years or more, then there is a provision to give him a minimum pension of Rs 10 thousand.

Talking about other major benefits of the new scheme, apart from gratuity, under UPS, a lump sum amount will also be given on retirement. It will be calculated as 10th part of the basic salary and dearness allowance for every 6 months of service of the employees. The amount of gratuity in this can be less than that of OPS.
