UP: Loan recovery agent came to their house and insulted them, husband, wife and daughter committed suicide by consuming poison

In UP’s Hapur, a couple, harassed by a loan recovery agent, along with their daughter, committed suicide by consuming poison. The area is mourning due to the death of three people in the same family.

Regarding this mass suicide, the police said that the husband-wife and their 18-year-old daughter committed suicide by consuming poison. At the same time, the villagers claim that recovery agents had harassed them after they failed to repay the bank loan.

Recovery agents were harassing the family: Villagers

Police said the incident took place in Sapnavat village in Kapurpur area, adding that they have not received any complaint in the matter yet. Police said that villagers alleged that agents of a private bank were constantly harassing the family to repay the loan, following which they took this fatal step.

The names of the deceased are Sanjeev Rana (48), wife Premvati (45) and daughter Payal (18). The family also has two minor sons. Kapurpur SHO Avnish Sharma said that some time ago, they had taken a loan of about Rs 5 lakh from a private bank for the education of their children.

Police said that on the night of August 31, five recovery agents came to Rana’s house and threatened the family. Villagers said that the family was hurt by this and committed suicide, police said.

Police busy investigating the matter

Police said that when the couple consumed poison, their sons were not at home. Villagers admitted all three to a private hospital in Meerut where they died.

Circle Officer Stuti Singh said that initial investigation revealed that the family committed suicide due to being unable to repay the loan. Singh said that Sanjeev Rana died on Sunday night while his wife and daughter died on Monday. SHO Sharma said that no complaint has been lodged in this matter.
