UP government’s new social media policy, Punishment up to life imprisonment for anti-national posts, YouTubers get advertisements up to Rs 8 lakh

The Uttar Pradesh government has come up with a new social media policy, under which a punishment of three years to life imprisonment can be given for posting objectionable posts. Along with this, a system of advertising for digital agencies has also been made on social media. The social media policy has been approved in the cabinet meeting.

The government has also decided to give advertisements to agencies and firms making content videos or reels based on the schemes and achievements of the state government on social media platforms Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter (X). Some conditions have also been laid down for this.

According to the policy, advertisements will be given on the basis of subscribers and followers of the user on different platforms. These have been kept in four categories – 5 lakhs, 4 lakhs, 3 lakhs and 30 thousand rupees per month. While for YouTube video shots and podcasts, the payment has been kept at Rs 8 lakh, Rs 7 lakh, Rs 6 lakh and Rs 4 lakh.

The new social media policy of the UP government has a provision of punishment ranging from three years to life imprisonment for posting anti-national content. Till now, action was taken under Section 66E and 66F of the IT Act. Apart from this, one may also have to face a criminal defamation case for posting indecent and obscene content.
