UP: Case of wood theft went on for 27 years, now sentenced to one day in jail, along with a fine of Rs 1500

In Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district, a case of wood theft went on for 27 years. The verdict of this case came yesterday. In the verdict, the accused were sentenced to just one day each. Also, a fine of Rs 1500 was imposed. This theft incident took place in 1997.

In fact, in 1997, illegally stolen wood was recovered from the house of Ayub and Sharif, residents of Fulmanaha village of Brijmanganj police station area. After which a case was registered in this matter in Brijmanganj police station. This case was registered under 385/1997 section 379, 411 IPC and 26 Forest Deforestation Act.

In this case, Judicial Magistrate Farenda, after finding both the accused guilty, has sentenced them to one day’s imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 1500 each. Also, in case of non-payment of the fine, they will be sentenced to additional imprisonment of 10 days each.

In this case, Superintendent of Police, Maharajganj, Somendra Meena said that the cases are being resolved through effective advocacy. Because, Operation Conviction campaign is being run on the instructions of Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police.

In view of this campaign, effective advocacy of important identified cases is being done to ensure speedy disposal of cases. In the same sequence, Maharajganj Police established coordination with the prosecution department and launched a campaign for effective disposal of cases. In which, the Hon’ble Court has sentenced the accused to one day’s imprisonment and fined them Rs. 1500 each after finding them guilty in the case of wood theft registered 27 years ago in Brijmanganj police station.
