Unique Rakshabandhan in Hingoli, women tied Rakhi to trees instead of brothers

In Hingoli district of Maharashtra, some women celebrated the festival of Rakshabandhan in a very unique way. Instead of tying rakhi to their brother, these women tied rakhi to a tree and gave a message to people to protect the environment. In Tokaigadh, women tied rakhi to a tree.

Along with tying Rakhi to the tree, these women also promised that they will always protect the tree and have appealed to people to do the same. Let us tell you that in Hindu religion, trees and plants are considered as God because these trees and plants play a very important role in keeping the human race alive.

This is the reason why every year women of Kurunda village of Tokaigarh and the surrounding area tie Rakhi to the tree. On the day of Raksha Bandhan, men along with women come here and plant a tree and tie Rakhi to it. They take a pledge to protect that tree and keep it green. This campaign has been going on continuously for the last 5 years and through this, 30 thousand trees have been planted so far.

This campaign was started by some young men and women of Kurunda in the year 2017, after which the people there are also carrying out this initiative as a tradition. On the day of Rakshabandhan, all the people and school children here celebrate the festival by tying a Rakhi to the tree.

Regarding this unique Raksha Bandhan, local resident Kishore Fedram said, we celebrate this festival every year by tying a Rakhi to a tree here. Every year we plant a tree and take a pledge to protect it by tying a Rakhi to it. A woman said that today we have celebrated Raksha Bandhan by tying a Rakhi to a tree and have also appealed to people to celebrate the festival in this manner.
