Amit Shah Corruption Comment Sharad Pawar: A day after Amit Shah launched a scathing attack on Sharad Pawar and called him the ‘kingpin of corruption’, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCPThere is uneasiness among NCP leaders who fear that such comments may generate sympathy for the NCP chief. Former Pimpri-Chinchwad MLA Vilas Lande, considered close to Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, expressed unhappiness over Shah’s remarks. He also wrote to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state unit chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule, urging the party to refrain from such comments.

Before the Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had targeted Sharad Pawar, calling him a “wandering soul”, which resulted in sympathy for the leader. Such comments against an 84-year-old man are not appropriate,” Lande said. Another NCP MLA from Pimpri Anna Bansode also objected to the remarks, saying, “Sharad Pawar is a respected person in Maharashtra and Amit Shah’s statement is inappropriate.”

NCP working president Supriya Sule asked the home minister why the Modi government honoured Pawar with the Padma Vibhushan if he was so corrupt. “Many people accused of corruption by the BJP are now part of the party,” Sule said.

BJP plans to further push Shah’s comments

On the other hand, the BJP is planning to take Shah’s comments further. Pune unit chief Dheeraj Ghate said, ‘The party plans to publish documents of alleged corruption cases involving Sharad Pawar and distribute them to voters ahead of the elections.’

Shah was addressing the BJP’s state convention in Pune on Sunday when he said, “If there is anyone who is the biggest kingpin of corruption in Indian politics, it is Sharad Pawar. I have no confusion about this. I am openly saying that Pawar has institutionalised corruption in the country,” he said, accusing the veteran politician of doing nothing for the welfare of the country and nothing for Maharashtra. This was Shah’s first visit to the state after the BJP suffered a crushing defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, where its tally fell to nine from 23 in 2019.
