Ulajh Review: You will get bored in the name of suspense, your mind will get ‘confused’ after watching Janhvi Kapoor’s acting

After watching Janhvi Kapoor’s new film ‘Uljh’, if I have to review it in one line, then I would say that this is a very complicated film. Not ‘exciting’ complicated, ‘boring’ complicated.

Let’s start with the story. The story of the film is based on a girl named Suhana Bhatia (Jahnavi Kapoor). Suhana is the daughter of India’s famous diplomat Vanraj Bhatia (Adil Hussain). Her grandfather was India’s representative in the UN, whose name is written in Indian children’s civics books. So the total thing is that Suhana is from a strong political family. But her character is equal to Ranvijay Singh of ‘Animal’. She also drinks the drink of her father’s choice.

Suhana Bhatia has severe daddy issues. The daughter has been made a Deputy High Commissioner at a young age due to her work and intelligence, but Suhana’s father is not very happy. Suhana cries and asks him to believe in herself and then does such stupid things that you wonder if her father is right, he is not trustworthy.

After Suhana gets a big post, she is transferred to London. Here she gets her personal driver, whose name is Salim (Rajesh Tailang). Salim says that he will take care of Suhana in an unknown city. If needed, Suhana can call him even at midnight. In such a situation, when a frown appears on Suhana’s face, he immediately offers help. Then you come to know that Salim is not a simple man. This picture is so predictable.

Despite working in such a big embassy, Suhana falls in love with a stranger without knowing or understanding him. This stranger introduces himself as Nakul (Gulshan Devaiah). But Suhana, entangled in Nakul’s sweet talk, forgets to check his background. Now, being a diplomat, what will happen if you hang out with any random person and spend nights with him? Exactly what you are thinking. Nakul takes advantage of Suhana’s stupidity and blackmails her. Under pressure, Suhana starts leaking important and confidential documents of India. Now her career is at stake. Also, her ‘papa’s’ respect and position are at stake.

What did Sudhanshu do?

Director Sudhanshu Saria has directed this film. After making films like Loev (2015) and Sana (2023), Sudhanshu feels that he is directing a film for the first time. The story of the film has been written by Saria along with Parvez Sheikh. After watching some parts of it, you feel that yes, maybe this story on paper seems interesting and exciting. But bringing it on screen is a different thing. And many of its parts are completely clichéd.

A person in a high position does a minor stupidity and then has to face various problems because of it. We have seen all this in many Bollywood films in different styles. The lead character is very intelligent, but when the plot requires it, he becomes the dumbest person in the world. And then when he is drowned in the sea of problems, he remembers that hey, I have the brain of Chacha Chaudhary, let’s catch the villain.

Uljh has been made in a very boring way. Its screenplay is so loose that you wait for it to end. By the time an hour of the film is over, you understand why it is called ‘Uljh’ because you are entangled between what the director wants to show, what roles the actors are playing and what is happening on the screen. Then you understand that all of these together are driving us crazy. The makers think that how will the audience know that we are trying to fool them.

Jhanvi has no strength

The characters of the film do not have any special strength. Its weakest point is its lead heroine Janhvi Kapoor. Janhvi has played the character of Suhana with the same energy with which Suhana Khan played the character of Veronica in ‘The Archies’. Her dialogue delivery is quite irritating. There is no special strength in her work. In the name of acting, Janhvi definitely knows how to deliver flat dialogues with tears in her eyes. Her expressions are almost the same in every scene. Her screams in some scenes tear your ears.

No amount of talk about Janhvi Kapoor’s character would be enough. In one sequence, Suhana Bhatia gets a major detail. So she goes to the person who has betrayed her. First she confronts him and kills him and then while he is dying, she asks him ‘Why did you do this?’, ‘Where are my documents?’, ‘Who do you work for?’ Now I am not an expert, but sister, we say all these things to a person when he is alive.

The film stars Gulshan Devaiah, who plays the character of Nakul. Nakul has many names and many identities, in which Gulshan has done a great job. From romance with Jhanvi to villainy, Gulshan has played his role brilliantly. Actors Miang Chang, Roshan Mathew, Adil Hussain and others have also brought life to their characters. A scene involving Chang is one of the best scenes in the film. ‘Uljh’ also has a ruthless character named Elena, it would have been fun if someone had shot her. That’s all I don’t want to talk about this picture.
