Uddhav Thackeray targets BJP

Uddhav Thackeray’s attack on BJP: Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of indulging in power jihad by splitting political parties to form a government. Responding to Union minister Amit Shah’s remark that Thackeray heads the Aurangzeb fan club, the Shiv Sena (Uttar Pradesh) chief also accused Shah of being a political descendant of Afghan ruler Ahmed Shah Abdali who defeated the Marathas in the Battle of Panipat.

Uddhav Thackeray, citing the split in the Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), accused the BJP of breaking up parties. Addressing party workers in Pune, Thackeray said, “If Muslims are with us and we explain our Hindutva to them, then we (according to the BJP) are Aurangzeb fan club. And what you are doing is power jihad.” He targeted the Eknath Shinde-led government over the ‘Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Behen’ scheme and accused it of bribing voters by giving them freebies.

Waze’s allegation is Fadnavis’ new ploy: Anil Deshmukh

At the same time, former Maharashtra Home Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Anil Deshmukh on Saturday claimed that the recent allegation of taking bribe against him by sacked Mumbai Police officer Sachin Waze is a new trick of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Waze is an accused in the Antilia bomb case and the murder of Thane businessman Mansukh Hiran. Waze is currently lodged in Taloja Central Jail in Navi Mumbai. According to reports, Waze has reiterated his allegation of taking bribe against Deshmukh.

Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh had alleged that Deshmukh had asked police officers to collect Rs 100 crore every month from bars and restaurants in the city during his tenure as home minister. Deshmukh resigned as home minister in 2021 in the wake of the allegations. Waze had earlier told an inquiry commission that he had paid money to Deshmukh’s aides on his instructions. Reacting to Waze’s repeated allegations, Anil Deshmukh said, “Sachin Waze’s allegations are Devendra Fadnavis’ new ploy because a few days ago, I had accused Fadnavis of how he had pressurised me three years ago to implicate Uddhav Thackeray and Aditya Thackeray.”

He said, Fadnavis probably does not know that the Bombay High Court has said about Sachin Waze that he has a criminal record. He was arrested in two murder cases and he is not a person who can be trusted. Deshmukh alleged that Fadnavis used a person with a criminal record to trap him. Deshmukh had recently claimed that when Fadnavis was the Leader of the Opposition, he tried to pressure him to sign an affidavit against the then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Cabinet Minister Aditya Thackeray and Ajit Pawar, who was Deputy Chief Minister in the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi government.
