Troubled by her in-laws’ dowry demands, a woman jumped from the 11th floor and died

A woman committed suicide by jumping from the 11th floor of a building in Ghaziabad, UP, adjacent to Delhi. Regarding this incident, the police said that the 32-year-old woman committed suicide by jumping from the 11th floor after accusing her husband of dowry harassment. The police have arrested the accused husband. The police said that the woman has been identified as Aarti.

According to the news agency, the Nand Gram police has sent the woman’s body for postmortem. The police have arrested her accused husband Mayank Tyagi. Aarti’s father Rajiv Tyagi has filed a complaint accusing Mayank, his father Vinod and mother Sadhna of torturing his daughter severely for dowry.

In his complaint, Rajiv Tyagi alleged that even after dowry was given at Aarti’s wedding to Mayank on January 15, 2020, there was a constant demand for more money.

“Aarti had expressed her anguish through messages and a diary recovered from her belongings. The diary has full details of her complaints and troubles,” her father alleged.

Police said they are currently investigating whether Aarti’s death was the result of suicide or whether her husband and in-laws forcibly threw her off the building. Dharampal Singh, SHO of Nand Gram police station, said an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances of her death.
