Tripura AIDS: AIDS is spreading rapidly among students in Tripura. 828 students have died in the last few years HIV 47 of them have been found positive. 47 of them have died. The presence of so many AIDS patients in a state with a population of just 35 lakh is a matter of great concern.

What did the Tripura government say

Tripura State AIDS Control Society said on the report of AIDS in students- “A report is circulating that 828 students in Tripura are registered as HIV positive and 47 of them have died. The total figure of 828 and 47 is from April 2007 to May 2024. This implies that 828 students registered in ART centers in the last several years are getting free anti retroviral treatment as per NACO guidelines, however from 2007 to May, 2024, 47 of them died.

How many AIDS patients in Tripura?

A senior official of the Tripura State AIDS Control Society (TSACS) said that we have so far registered 828 students who are HIV positive. Out of them, 572 students are still alive and we have lost 47 people due to this dangerous infection. Many students have moved out of Tripura for higher education in reputed institutions across the country. The total number of active HIV cases in Tripura as of May 2024 is 8,729 persons registered in ART (antiretroviral therapy) centres. Out of these people, 5,674 people are reported to be alive and this includes 4,570 men, 1,103 women and one transgender person.

Why is AIDS spreading in Tripura

According to reports, these students have been identified from 220 schools, 24 colleges and universities. These students have contracted AIDS due to drug addiction. These students used to take drugs through injection, which spread AIDS.
