In recent times, the issue of shortage of general coaches was prevalent, there was a lot of crowd in AC. After which Indian Railways was heavily criticized. Now the Railways has said that 10 thousand general and sleeper coaches will be manufactured within 2 years.

Which boxes will be made?

According to PTI, giving this information in a statement on Tuesday, Northern Railway said that the aim of this initiative is to increase facilities for common rail passengers. After the manufacture of 10,000 non-AC coaches in the next two years, their share in the total passenger coaches will increase by 22 percent. During the financial year 2024-25, the railways will also manufacture 2,605 coaches of general class, 1,470 coaches of sleeper class and 323 coaches of SLR (designated for guards and disabled) class along with 32 parcel vans and 55 pantry cars.

Coaches of Amrit Bharat trains also included

According to the statement, this construction program designed to improve the convenience of passengers also includes general, sleeper and SLR coaches for Amrit Bharat trains. Similarly, in the financial year 2025-26, 2,710 general class coaches, 1,910 sleeper class coaches, 514 SLR coaches, 200 parcel vans and 110 pantry cars will be manufactured. According to the statement, “The focus of the Railways is on ensuring adequate and better facilities for passengers traveling in non-AC coaches as well as increasing comfort and availability in accordance with the changing needs of passengers and seasonal fluctuations.”

The hassle of waiting will end

With the construction of new railway coaches, the railways will be in a position to provide confirmed tickets to a larger number of passengers. This will save passengers from facing long waiting lists. Especially during festivals and holidays, it becomes very difficult to get a confirmed ticket.
