This time in Durga Puja, instead of earrings and bindi, she bought ‘weapons’, Kolkata girl showed her shopping

Many vloggers on social media make videos of their daily life. They also make and post videos of their day-long routine. Recently, a female vlogger shared a video of her recent shopping which was a little different but gave a big message.

Shreyasi Biswas shared a video from her Instagram ID @thevoguishaffair and said, ‘Like all Bengali girls, I have done my shopping for this year’s Durga Puja. See what I bought. First of all, I bought a pepper spray for myself which, if sprayed on an attacker, can cause a dangerous attack on his eyes and lungs.’

He further said- ‘After this I have bought an alarm chain which on pressing the button plays such a loud alarm that it is enough to scare away the attacker. Apart from this, there is a multi-purpose chain which has a small knife and many sharp edges which you can use to protect yourself during an attack.’

She further says- ‘What an irony that in a state where every daughter of every household is considered to be a form of Maa Durga, where the goddess is worshipped grandly, the safety of women is a matter of concern. You can buy these self-defense items online. Thank you’.

In the caption of the video, she wrote- ‘I never thought that I would make a video on the safety of women living in Kolkata. The condition of today’s system is so pathetic that women need to protect themselves. Be alert at your workplace and keep these self-defense weapons in your bag.’

It is clear from the video that the girl is talking about women’s safety in the context of the tragic incident that took place at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. Shreyasi’s video has received more than 7.6 lakh views and 74,000 likes. People have also made many comments on this video. One user wrote – ‘Even after all this, if 5 people attack us, we cannot protect ourselves. It is important that boys should also be educated along with girls’.

Another said, ‘Didi, this is very sad, but right now this is the one thing on every Bengali woman’s mind that Kolkata is no longer safe for women.’ A third wrote, ‘After the Kolkata incident, even a millisecond’s eye contact with a stranger makes me anxious.’

Let us tell you that this month, the case of rape, brutality and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College has shaken the country.
