On the ninth day of the monsoon session, during the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, there was a question about the National Highway. A Congress MP had asked this question, referring to his parliamentary constituency, as to what is the criteria for declaring a National Highway. Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajay Tamta stood up on behalf of the government to answer.
When the Union Minister started answering, Speaker Om Birla got irritated and even told the question twice. Then he stopped him in the middle of the answer and took the next question. What happened was that during the Question Hour, Bhajan Lal Jatav, Congress MP from Karauli-Dholpur, Rajasthan, asked a question about the National Highway in the Lok Sabha.
The Congress MP asked what are the criteria for declaring a road as a national highway. He mentioned that there are three pilgrimage sites in his parliamentary constituency and asked whether the government has any idea of declaring it a national highway? Responding to this, Ajay Tamta said that the honorable member has asked a question related to Maharashtra. Interrupting him, the speaker said that it is not related to Maharashtra, he asked what is the policy for declaring a national highway. The Union Minister said that he had asked such a question. I want to give him some information about Rajasthan… The speaker interrupted him again.
