This law, named Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act 2024, was approved by President Draupadi Murmu herself. The purpose behind bringing the law was to ensure more transparency in all the major public exams being conducted. Also, the youth should be assured that no irregularities will be allowed. This law was brought in view of many recent paper leaks including one after the other examinations, such as the teacher recruitment exam in Rajasthan, the Common Eligibility Test (CET) for Group-D posts in Haryana, recruitment for junior clerk in Gujarat and constable recruitment exam in Bihar.

The anti-leak law talks about public exams. These are exams conducted by the Public Examinations Authority, or any authority recognised by the Centre. This includes several major exams like UPSC, SSC, Indian Railways, banking recruitment, and all computer-based exams conducted by the NTA.
